Week in Review: Sept 27- October 1

Week in Review: Sept 27- October 1

October 1, 2021 by NC OJD

Happy October Readers! We’re getting closer and closer to the end of the year and I can promise you, OJD definitely thinks 2021 just started. We’ve got a really nice tip of the week for you today and sharing a great new read (that’s currently being passed around the office). OJD is also planning 2 new trainings for November AND partnering with our Chief Regional Defender Tucker Charns on another. We hope to round out your year, and CLE credits, with some great content. Let’s get your week wrapped up.

Tip of the Week

Remember when we said we were starting to make you more content via video? Well, that’s where your tip of the week comes in. Every so often your tip will be live from an OJD office member OR you! We’re always accepting volunteers to share a tip or piece of information you feel would be useful to your fellow attorneys or community!

Resource!

  1. The Georgetown Juvenile Justice Clinic and Initiative (GJJI) is seeking applications for the 2022-2024 Racial Justice and Youth Defense Fellowship! This Fellowship is for two-years, is full-time, and a great opportunity for a 2022 law graduate, a recent law graduate, or a more seasoned lawyer committed to racial justice reform in the juvenile legal system. Click here to learn more about the fellowship and if you want, apply! Applications must be submitted by November 19, 2021.

  2. North Carolina native and powerhouse mentor and professor, Kristin Henning of Georgetown Law’s Juvenile Justice Clinic & Initiative, has written a deeply researched and extremely moviing book, The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth. She says, “This book is for everyone who cares about improving the lives of Black youth in America. It is for everyone who wants to change the way Americans view and engage with Black children.” You can purchase this book by clicking the link above. OJD is already chapters in!
