Save the Date! 2023 Youth Defender Forum Dates Announced!

Save the Date! 2023 Youth Defender Forum Dates Announced!

May 8, 2023 by NC OJD

OJD is excited to announce the dates for our upcoming regional Youth Defender Forums! We had such a great time last year meeting defenders in each region, discussing updates to youth defense, and learning more about the things you are seeing in court. This year, we will have day long trainings in the Western, Central, and Eastern regions of our state that focus on Defending Youth Charged with Violent Offenses. We will bring speakers to each region to talk about some of the important concerns, topics, case law, and obstacles we face in defending youth charged with these serious offenses. We hope you can join us. Below you’ll find dates and locations for each of our Youth Defender Forums. If you have any questions, please contact Yolanda Fair at yolanda.r.fair2@nccourts.org.

Western Region Youth Defender Forum

Friday, June 2, 2023

Haywood Community College

Clyde, NC

Central Region Youth Defender Forum

Friday, September 15, 2023

Alamance Community College

Graham, NC

Eastern Region Youth Defender Forum

Friday, December 1, 2023

Beaufort Community College

Washington, NC

Be on the lookout for a registration e-mail for the forum in your region. While we encourage defenders to attend the forum in their region of the state, if you cannot attend the forum for your region, please reach out to us and we will you send the other registration links.

CLE Credits

This year’s Forums will be for 5 hours of CLE credit: 4 hours of general credit and 1 hour of ethics credit. The cost of the CLE will be covered by OJD.

Scholarship Information

Scholarship funds are available to help defenders offset the cost of attending the Forums. We understand that taking a day away from private practice isn’t free. Gas prices aren’t what they used to be, and Interstate 40 doesn’t go through every county in our state. Please reach out to us if we can assist you in offsetting the cost of attending. We really would like to see you there!

If you have any further questions, you may reach OJD Project Attorney Yolanda Fair at Yolanda.R.Fair2@nccourts.org or (919) 890-1644.

We can’t wait to see you there!
