Juvenile First-Degree Murder: First Appearance Training

Join Juvenile Defender Eric Zogry, Assistant Juvenile Defender Terri Johnson, and Project Attorney Yolanda Fair as they discuss the First Appearance process for youth charged with First Degree Murder in North Carolina. 

• Attorneys will receive an overview of the First Appearance process and procedure in juvenile court.
• They will learn about the expectations of attorneys representing youth at this stage of the case. 
• The training will also provide an overview of the stages of the case after First Appearance so that attorneys taking these serious cases will know what to expect. 
• They will also learn about important topics related to First Appearance such as the initial secure custody for youth in secure custody, restraint hearings, and the role of parents and guardians at First Appearance. 
• This training will provide a throughout overview of the first appearance process for youth charged with first degree murder.
