About the event

This year's training will offer a new experience. First, attendees will hear from experts on topics including juvenile interrogations, secured custody, and probable cause. We will also have a discussion about youth and gangs, taught by Dr. Steven R. Cureton, Professor and Department Head of Sociology, Criminology and Justice Studies, UNC Greensboro.

Other sessions, subject to Bar approval, will satisfy attorneys' mental health and technology CLE requirements, including a session on juvenile defense and E-Courts. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Guilford Juvenile Detention facility, hear from the facility's director, as well as juveniles who have experienced the system, and discuss the needs of youth and other matters of concern to defenders. For information on other public defense education courses, visit our Public Defense Education site.
